Now available: 16 Gbps Colibri high-speed connectors from ept

ept’s Colibri high-speed connector is now available in 16 Gbps and 10 Gbps versions. With this move, connector manufacturer ept is responding to the growing market demand for connectors designed for demanding high-speed data transmission, such as USB 3.1 Gen 2 and PCI Express 4.0. The Colibri COM-Express stands out with its compact design and a 0.5 mm pitch. Like the 10
Gbit/s version, the new high-speed variant is available for 5 mm or 8 mm PCB spacing. Both plugs and receptacles are available in pin counts of 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, and 220. The 440-pin version, consisting of two plugs or receptacles with 220 pins each, is held together in a mounting frame. The 16 Gbps version is layout- and plug-compatible with the Colibri standard version.
The Colibri high-speed connectors are ideal for any application requiring high data transfer rates, including mezzanine board-to-board systems and COM Express specifications. These compact high-speed connectors are already being used in a wide variety of fields: for example, in industrial automation, kiosk and POS systems, medical technology, measurement technology, consumer electronics, and gaming, as well as in the transportation and building automation sectors.
To ensure excellent signal quality at these high data rates, ept optimized the contact design of the entire Colibri connector family. At embedded world 2019 in Nuremberg, samples and S-parameters for simulating data transfers up to 16 Gbit/s will be available to interested parties. The Colibri Plug 16+ will be available starting in March.
