Velox High-Speed backplane

Velox® is a modular connector system for high-speed backplane-Anwendungen. It was developed specifically for markets with high performance requirements.
The Velox® product series meets the high requirements of VITA46 systems. Four different types are available, each with the option for custom configuration. This provides developers with greater flexibility in designing PCB layouts.
The 1.27 µm-thick gold plating also ensures the system’s long service life.

Features

Velox® connector feature a robust design, including a gold plating 1.27 μm (50 micro") thick. The contacts are recessed, providing additional protection. All these features contribute to a very long service life of at least 200 mating cycles. Velox® is therefore particularly suitable for high-speed backplane applications with a data throughput of 10 Gbit/s. The high durability of the connector has already been proven in tests conducted in accordance with the VITA-46 standard.

The VITA46 Specification

The VITA 46 specifications, also known as VPX, describe a new high-speed connector system. Among other things, it supports Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express, Serial RapidIO, and InfiniBand. The 6HE and 3HE Eurocard form factors familiar from the VMEbus are supported to ensure maximum compatibility. This also makes hybrid systems possible. The VITA 46 standard was developed by the VITA organization primarily for computer systems that must withstand high stresses, such as in military applications.

Four different types can be combined with one another in a modular fashion. Velox® -connector are highly flexible due to their varying numbers of contacts. This feature is further emphasized by the ability to configure the variants individually.

“The Velox® connector system was developed by ept specifically for VITA-46 systems, also known as VPX. The Velox® system includes four different types of connector that can be arranged in a modular configuration. In addition, customers can choose the number of contacts themselves. They can order either fully populated connector with 72 or 144 contacts or a custom contact configuration. This gives developers a great deal of flexibility when designing printed circuit boards. The system was developed specifically for applications with high performance requirements. Thanks to its gold plating and the contacts located inside the insulator, it is extremely durable."
