Technical Features of the Float27 Connector
Float27 PCB Connectors

Our Float27 SMT PCB connectors with a 1.27 mm pitch and floating function now deliver exactly that—and much more: thanks to their high tolerance compensation of up to ±0.8 mm, they are ideal for a wide range of applications that are subject to extremely high shock and vibration loads, require bridging of large PCB spacing, and are also processed automatically. By combining the Float27 female connector with the various designs of the One27 male connectors and a large overlap range, virtually any PCB spacing from 26.1 to 30.7 mm can be achieved. Optimal processability of the SMT PCB connectors is ensured by a coplanarity tolerance of just 0.1 mm, and maximum robustness is provided by the double-legged spring contact.

FAQ: Questions and Answers About Float27 SMT PCB Connectors
How can Float27 SMT PCB connectors be assembled?
The Float27 connector system is manufactured using surface mount technology (SMT) and is therefore soldered directly onto printed circuit boards. Positioning pins on the underside of the Float27 connectors ensure precise positioning on the printed circuit board. ept also guarantees contact coplanarity of no more than 0.1 mm to ensure reliable soldering during assembly.
In what ways can printed circuit boards be connected to each other using Float27 SMT connectors?
By combining them with the various blade strips from the One27 connector family, connections between printed circuit boards can be established in both parallel and right-angle configurations.
What PCB spacing options are available with the Float27 connectors?
With the Float27 PCB connectors, a minimum PCB spacing of 26.1 mm and a maximum PCB spacing of 30.70 mm can be achieved. This is made possible, in part, by the large 2.4 mm over-insertion range. The male and female connectors can thus be pulled apart by up to 1.5 mm while still ensuring optimal and reliable contact.

Why is the contact between the blade and the spring strip particularly reliable in Float27 connectors?
In Float27 connectors, electrical contact is established via a double-pronged spring contact that encloses the contact pin of the female connector. Additionally, contact is made via the smooth, rolled surface of the spring contact. This prevents wear on the contact surface and the formation of metal shavings when inserting Float27 plugs.

What applications are Float27 PCB connectors used for?
Float27 connectors are suitable for all applications involving high shock and vibration loads. Tolerance compensation via the meander relieves stress on the soldering area, reduces stress on the solder joint, and ensures low displacement forces. Float27 connectors are also suitable for automated assembly processes or when multiple connectors are to be soldered onto a printed circuit board. Manufacturing tolerances are compensated for up to ±0.8 mm by the floating function.
What tolerances do Float27 PCB connectors accommodate?
Float27 connectors provide a high degree of tolerance compensation. This allows for an alignment tolerance of ±0.8 mm in both the longitudinal and transverse axes when mating the male and female connectors, as well as when they are mated. In addition, a contact overlap of up to 2.4 mm ensures this high tolerance compensation in the Z-direction as well.
Can the solder joints of the Float27 SMT connectors on the printed circuit board be inspected using automatic optical inspection (AOI)?
Yes, the contact design of the Float27 connectors is engineered for automatic optical inspection after soldering. The contacts on the Float27 PCB connectors are staggered, allowing automatic optical inspection to be performed from one side.
Are ept PCB connectors RoHS-compliant?
RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances) is the directive restricting the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
We confirm that Float27 connectors from ept are compliant with RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, as evidenced by the RoHS certificate. For more information, please visit RoHS & REACH.
